About Jeffrey Gerald

Hi, I’m Jeffrey Gerald — a senior at BASIS DC Public Charter School, photographer, and passionate advocate for community engagement and cultural preservation. Currently, I intern at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, where I assist with cultural research, archival work, and public outreach initiatives. I’m also the founder and lead photographer of Chxsen Visualz, a growing photography business serving the DC-Baltimore area through creative storytelling and client-centered shoots. Beyond academics, I’m actively involved in leadership and civic work. I co-founded and serve as President of my school’s Black Student Union, represent student voices on the DC State Board of Education’s Student Advisory Committee, and collaborate with city leaders through the Metropolitan Police Department’s Youth Advisory Council. These experiences have helped me build strong skills in leadership, organization, community outreach, and advocacy. In Fall 2025, I plan to major in Psychology and minor in Afro-American Studies, with a focus on using my education to empower communities and advocate for positive change. Let’s connect!
