About Jeffrey Journault

Hello there, I'm Jeff and these are my experiences and interests condensed down to a paragraph or two: Regarding work, I completed my M.Sc. in 2017 at the University of Alberta where I studied using InSAR as a means of assessing landslide activity within the interior of British Columbia. Prior to grad school, I spent just under 4 years working with BGC Engineering Inc. in Edmonton, Alberta. For much of that time my work centered on tailings dam instrumentation and geotechnical design, but BGC also sent me on many fantastic site investigation projects in remote corners of the country which, in hindsight, I may not have enjoyed very much at the time but certainly remember fondly today. My gateway to all that fun was completing my bachelor's degree in civil engineering at the University of Alberta in 2011 through the co-op program. Other experiences of note include my time spent as the 2015/2016 graduate student representative with the Geotechnical Society of Edmonton (GSE), as well as the publication and presentation of a my preliminary research results at the CGS's GeoVan2016 conference in Vancouver. Today I find myself living in Calgary, AB having returned to work with BGC, this time as part of the pipeline geohazards group. In that role, my focus has shifted to assessing geotechnical and hydrotechnical hazards in an effort to better understand their effects on linear infrastructure. I've also become specialized at interpreting IMU bending strain data to identify the impacts of ground movement on pipelines in terrain prone to landslides. When I'm not climbing hillsides or standing in rivers, I like to fill my time with festivals, camping, and more local cuisine than is likely good for me.
