Background
About Jeffrey Juelsgaard
Four years of experience at Woodside High School granted me ample time to hone my teaching practice. I taught a variety of subjects at all grade levels and amassed a large collection of curriculum in the process. I start with learning goals and plan backwards to form a path to success. Students are frequently and effectively assessed to ensure that they meet their learning goals. My instruction aims to teach all students by catering to diverse learning preferences and educational needs. In my classes, I emphasize critical thinking skills such as close reading, sourcing, and corroboration in order to foster both factual knowledge and reasoning abilities. Because of my use of pair-shares, equity cards, and participation tickets, all students participate in my classes. I ensure that my students have access to the latest technologies and digital resources including a class website. Students also complete myriad projects that require a multitude of skills to see to completion. Finally, I seek to promote personal ethics, social consciousness, and a sense of global citizenship in my classroom. Overall, I educate skilled, informed, and engaged students. At the end of last school year, I chose to leave Woodside High to take a sabbatical. As a life-long learner, I desired time to pursue spiritual growth by taking online classes, attending religious retreats, and frequenting meditation centers. I have developed greatly both personally and professionally. Not only have I gained substantial subject knowledge of social studies and religion, I have gained experience in mindfulness practices which I believe to be an integral, yet lacking, component of many schools. As many Catholics do, I believe the ultimate goal of life is a spiritual one. My sabbatical has helped me along my path. Now, I wish to guide others along their path. Teaching at a mission-driven institution would be an ideal opportunity for me to do just that.
