Background
About Jeffrey McWilliams
Specialties: Interpersonal communication and interaction with engineers, high reliability microelectronics design, analysis, simulation, and validation, electronics DFM, failure analysis and root cause investigation, EMC/ EMI, high-speed serial communications interfaces, automotive grade electronics design The rest of the story. While acquiring a BSEE in analog microelectronics and graduating at the top of my class, several summer internships provided me diverse professional experiences and exposure to several types of engineering organizations. After graduation, I started with Ford Motor Company's Safety Restraints Electronics group, shortly thereafter spun off with Visteon Electronics. After Autoliv acquired Visteon Restraints Electronics several years later, I joined Autoliv, serving in several capacities in various locations. Work at Autoliv (now called Veoneer,) centered on design, analysis, validation, and manufacture of electronic products that enhance vehicle occupant and pedestrian safety. I've led electrical hardware developments for new products, such as the first rollover sensors applied by General Motors, and implemented product changes and improvements on legacy products such as airbag control units and crash sensors for Ford, GM, and Hyundai/ Kia vehicles. For about 10 years, my work focused entirely on development of Far-Infrared (FIR) cameras and electronic systems for automotive "Night Vision." This began with design responsibility for the electronic hardware globally deployed in several generations of Veoneer's FIR camera, and eventually included technical leadership for complete new system developments as currently deployed on Cadillac and other vehicles. In late 2018, to pursue something new and enjoy a warmer climate, I moved out of automotive and the Detroit area to join Future Electronics as their FAE generalist in Raleigh, NC. This customer facing role aligned with my intended career objective of venturing into technical sales, and involved identifying and promoting new and exciting component technologies at accounts in this market. Over the course of the COVID pandemic, I was one of many for whom circumstances changed. Now, my background, skills, and experience are available for hire to whoever needs an experienced technical implementor and communicator with a diverse engineering background and the ability to effectively operate remotely or on site.
