An Autobiography of Jemel M. Hence “The secret of education lies in respecting the pupil.”- Ralph Waldo Emerson My name is Jemel Mose Hence. I was born on November 1, 1983 in Detroit, Michigan. I graduated from Oak Park High School in June of 2001. While in high school I excelled both inside and outside the classroom as a scholar athlete. The value of an education was bestowed upon me as a child. My family taught me the value of an education. Furthermore, I graduated from the University of Michigan in August of 2006. I majored in psychology and studied mathematics for four years. While at the University of Michigan I discovered my self identity. I would tutor and mentor under privileged children and peers from diverse backgrounds. I really loved it. That love later became motivation for my whole existence. I knew that I wanted to be an educator. I earned my Masters in Education at the University of Phoenix in January of 2010. University of Phoenix has made a tremendous difference in my life. It was the only University that was flexible enough for me to work full-time and go to school full-time. I earned my Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership at the University of Phoenix in July of 2016. Last but not least, I am a educator and international leader. I believe in the Ralph Waldo Emerson philosophy, “The secret to education lies in respecting the pupil.” In closing, I am a committed parent, married and devoted educator. I am determined and focused on enhancing myself with the ultimate goal of impacting the lives of all people through education because a mind is a terrible thing to waste.
