About Jen Robinson

I am a researcher studying extremist ideologies, political violence, terrorism and terrorist related tactics, and extremist group dynamics. My PhD was conferred by ANU in December 2024. I am a Research Member of AVERT. Previously, I was a Research Intern West Asia Project, The Lowy Institute, a political think tank based in Sydney, Australia. I co-created the dataset for the Typology of Terror Interactive, a visual representation of known information on Australian Jihadis. I hold a Master of International Security from the Centre of International Security Studies at the University of Sydney. During my time at Sydney University I provided research assistance for an Australian Research Council (ARC) funded paper, which sought to uncover the organizational dynamics of maritime terrorism, with a focus on piracy and kidnapping off the Horn of Africa. Previously I served as an Officer with the UK’s Royal Air Force, participating in active Service in Kuwait in 2003. I was awarded the Queen’s Commendation in the Operational Honours List of October of the same year, in recognition of “performing in the finest traditions of the Service, showing outstanding leadership, determination and courage”.
