About Jenn Burt

I am currently the BC Marine Program Director for Nature United, where I work to unite partners to define new pathways to a sustainable future. I work to support ocean conservation and sustainable fisheries in BC through mobilizing science, innovations, and best practices, as well as fostering collaboration and bridging across governments, Indigenous communities, and stakeholders. I am drawn toward working with people to explore "the art of the possible"! I am a professional and experienced scientist, practitioner, and leader with over 15 years of experience working in conservation and natural resource management. I have expertise in marine ecology, marine resource management, integrated marine planning, resilience and adaptation in coastal communities, and Pacific salmon ecology. I have worked closely with Indigenous partners and communities over the years to support many Indigenous-led and highly collaborative initiatives. I am also a strategic communicator and engagement specialist with professional training in facilitation and experience hosting large forums, workshops, programs and working in government relations. I am passionate about marine ecosystems and how changes in these systems influence coastal communities’ well-being. I work to support many coastal marine planning and resource management initiatives, and have a deep interest in finding ways for local communities, governments, NGOs and industry to work together to improve ecosystem-based management. Finally, I am passionate about public outreach and communication. I love giving talks, teaching courses, and sharing my knowledge of coastal social-ecological systems with diverse audiences.
