Background
About Jenn Tucci
I am a second-year graduate student at Boston University pursuing a Ph.D. in physical chemistry with research interests revolving around spectroscopy and its applications to the greater science community. Previous to this, I earned my B.S. in Forensic Science, with a concentration in chemistry from the University of New Haven. In this degree, I discovered my interests in toxicology, the analysis of controlled substances, and physical and analytical chemistry techniques. As such, I enrolled in chemistry-centered courses surrounding toxicology, medicinal chemistry, molecular spectroscopy, and physical chemistry. During my final year of my undergraduate studies, I completed an Honors thesis research project concerning the photodissociation pathways and kinetics of acrylonitrile using rotational spectroscopy. This project utilized experimental results I took from Argonne National Laboratory under the guidance of my advisor and laboratory colleagues. This research is pending publication and has been presented at the International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy (ISMS) conference. In addition to my education, I gained leadership and communication skills through various on-campus elections within positions such as the Class of 2024 President and the Executive Assistant for Honors Student Council. I successfully grew within my roles as House Representative, Senator for Residential Students, Executive Assistant, and Vice President of Operations within student government. These expanded my public speaking and writing skills while allowing me to advocate for thousands of students. Previous to university, I attended a vocational technical high school and gained 3 and a half years of experience in Graphic Communications in the areas of screen printing, embroidery, and graphic design. I gained skills in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, and Illustrator. These skills have been applied to my passion for chemistry through the creation of figures and presentations. I have participated in various community service events with town, beach, and campus cleanups as well as blood drives. Attended the Juniper Institute for Young Writers at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst to expand my writing skills further.
