About Jenna Cui

Carnegie Mellon graduate student working towards a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on biomechanics. Currently possess a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.I am currently a Research Assistant in Dr.Kenji Shimada's CERLAB working on the Medphantom project. My research is focused on 3D printing Voronoi lattice blocks modeled after bone structure in the forearm and performing Instron testing to gather force/stress/strain data on surgical pin removal from said blocks. The gathered data will assist surgeons in training in developing a better understanding of force felt during k wire insertion/removal for healthy or osteoporotic bone. Practical skills and software used in this project include nTopology, Instron testing, and 3D printing technology.Prior research experience in Dr.Jessica Zhang's computational biology lab in analyzing neuron growth morphometrics to determine patterns in neuron dendritic growth using change point technology. Co-author of 'Semi-Automated Quantitative Evaluation of Neuron Developmental Morphology In Vitro Using the Change-Point Test' published in Neuroinformatics. Software used includes ImageJ, R studio, and Minitab for image analysis.Prior internship experience in Mechanical Engineering and Quality Operations involving mechanical testing and validation as well as quality assurance experience. Extensive experience in projects using SOLIDWORKS, ANSYS, MATLAB, Minitab, Microsoft Power Apps, Python, thermodynamics, stress analysis, and microfluidics design.
