About Jenna Hess

I am an active and empathic listener, desiring to grasp how people are and identify their treatment needs and concerns. I encourage clients to express themselves through creative and verbal means. It is my passion to support, learn from, and help others combined with the art skills and creative thinking that give me the confidence to think on my feet, especially when needed to adjust expectations. I initially wanted to pursue a career as an artist, but once introduced to psychology and counseling, I desired to find a strategy to integrate those fields of thought. Completion of an art therapy masters program rekindled my appreciation of teaching and mentoring, but nevertheless reinforced art therapy was the true direction. I empower clients through understanding that they possess the tools to pave their own paths towards a healthier lifestyle. Noticing these tools derives from recognizing capability, getting the clients to notice their own strides in treatment and their personal goals. This process requires patience, empathy, and trusting of the self. I am seeking an art therapy position providing opportunities to work in a group and/or individual setting(s), on an interdisciplinary treatment team; with challenging clinical populations such as developmental and intellectual disabilities.
