About Jenna Simzer

I am a Principal Geotechnical Engineer and the Vice President of Mine Waste at WSP Canada Inc. with several teams across BC, Prairies and North and Ontario. My technical focus has been on civil infrastructure projects including tunnels and dams around BC. I have been involved with investigation, characterization and construction of soil and rock tunnels as well as an underground transit station upgrade design. Over the last eight years I have managed multi-disciplinary project teams for various inspections, audits, design and construction of repairs and upgrades for both water dams and closed, abandoned tailings storage facilities, including a recent dyke construction in Saint Lucia. In 2022, I moved into the group leader role for the Ports, Coastal and Surface Water team before transitioning to my current role in Mining in mid 2023. Over the last few years, I have enjoyed working with our talented people with expertise in Engineer or Record services, design and construction, quality assurance, risk assessments, options analysis, operational support, GISTM conformance, closure design, implementation and monitoring, civil design and drafting and laboratory testing. I am active with the Canadian Dam Association, have published papers with the International Commission on Large Dams and am a regular guest lecturer at UBC. Based in Victoria, I enjoy trying to keep up with the ever-changing interests of my son and camping with my family all over BC.
