Background

About Jennie Lambert

Writing an about me section has always been hard but here goes. After completing my a levels I knew university wasn’t for me (mainly because I was a little bit of a rebel). I felt lost and didn’t know what career I wanted or what I would be good at. I decided I wanted to pursue a career in the nhs but having a squeamish brain becoming a brain surgeon wasn’t an option. However, I did have natural skills. I was hard working, conscientious and EXTREMELY organised (I make lists about lists in all aspects of life) so I decided to go into the nhs as a medical secretary. Within one week I had enrolled on a amspar diploma course and was determined to succeed. After completing my qualifications I then worked my way up within child and adolescent mental health and became a medical secretary for the department and remained there for 8 years. I knew being the person I am (I like to know and learn constantly anything and everything… life intrigues me) I decided to go into Anthroposophical medicine, working as a pa to the director of a clinic, specialising in alternative medication for cancer patients and providing end of life care. I remained there until it’s closure and then returning to child mental health and remained there for a couple of years until I had my second child. After my sons arrival I needed to prioritise motherhood and decided to take a step down in my career and went to provide admin support with the district nursing team. A couple of years later I was approached by a GP surgery and offered the chance to get back into secretarial work and joined as a medical secretary/pa to the partners. I did this for 8 years and I was one of the lucky few who LOVED my job and I thrived and worked my way up and began training the gps in all new systems and taking on a leadership role. like with most of us covid hit. in the nhs covid hit hard!Working in the nhs during such an unsettled time and with children at home, I felt like my priorities changed and for the second time in my life I felt lost and didn’t know what to do. At this point I was expecting another baby and I knew I needed to be able to work from home with him but I also didn’t want to just become mum and lose myself. So after much soul searching I decided to join food recruit. Having never worked in the food industry, having never actually worked out of the nhs, I was terrified but I knew the skills I had always had and the skills I had learned in the nhs could be beneficial. So although it’s daunting i guess in life we all have to take that jump and have faith we will fly.
