About Jennifer Arling

I have been an educator since 1998. I began my career teaching in Dayton Public Schools before teaching 7-12 English for 10 years in the Greenville City Schools. After earning my TESOL credentials, I worked in the Beavercreek City Schools at an EL Specialist for three years before spending the last seven years as the EL Coordinator in the Northmont City Schools. Most recently, I have worked at an elementary instructional literacy coach at Northmont. I am a member of the the Ohio Department of Education English Learner Advisory Committee. During the 2020-2021 school year, I Facilitated the ELAC Title workgroup. The focus of the work group was improving English Learner family and community engagement as well as assisting the Community Resource Subgroup in compiling available community resources in the greater Dayton area. I am a member of the ELPA 21 Educator Advisory Council. As a part of this group, I created productive domain performance monitoring tasks for grades K-1 and 4-5. I am currently, the team lead for this group as we collaborate with the ELPA21 team to create more performance monitoring tasks for English learners. Additionally, I worked with Sari Louma from Ballard and Tighe on the standards setting committee for the Pre-IPT and am a member of the Ohio Alt-OELPA Community of Practice. Additionally, I am a SIOP Trainer of Trainers and have participated in Ohio Department of Education Literacy Academy and Ohio Teachers of Speakers of Other Languages Science of Reading training. I am also trained in LETRS. I have regularly created professional development for educators in my district and have presented on Human Smuggling and preparing early learners for the OELPA at the Ohio TESOL Conference.
