About Jennifer Higgins

I combine a career delivering athlete support with an academic role that allows me to directly contribute to the evolving evidence base and contribute to the training of future applied scientists. I’ve provided physiology support within inter-disciplinary teams to collegiate, club and elite athletes. My journey began working with youth athletes in athletics and swimming. After pursuing a PhD to enhance the quality of my measurements and support approach, I now deliver support to high performance athletes from across the world, with a focus on individuals and groups interested in optimizing their response to altitude. I completed a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Limerick, Ireland and a PhD in Exercise Physiology working with female distance runners, using a novel approach to examine bone metabolism. I deliver support to athletes based in and visiting Flagstaff, Arizona throughout the year with some European based support available during the summer months during both sea-level and altitude training including planning and on-camp support. I also deliver a selection of remote services e.g. travel and jet-lag mitigation strategies, recovery evaluations and youth athlete education services. My research priorities are focused on applied research in the areas of environmental adaptation and mitigation, and bone health.
