About Jennifer McKee

As an Academic Advisor with 10 years of experience, I have developed skills coaching students in the abilities they need in order to achieve academic success. I have helped at-risk students who need assistance because they are struggling in their courses. My goal when building a relationship with a student is to make sure they are aware of the campus as a community. As an advisor, I have helped students recover basic study skills through individual meetings and also through reorientations workshops. Empowering students to take ownership of their academic goals helps to shape them in their academic life and gives them the tools to succeed after they graduate. My role is to make sure students are aware of the various campus programs in the academic and extracurricular setting. This is to help the student to become engaged within the campus as a whole. Some students suffer in their academics because they do not have a sense of place in the campus. This can be a time of transition for many students who are entering the college for the first time. The more a student is engaged in their campus, the more likely they are going to persist and graduate in their desired degree. I am dedicated in helping students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural demographics that make up a college campus. My previous course of study in my Masters of Education in Higher Education Leadership and in my English Master’s program, I specifically studied Native American culture and the struggles Native American students have within higher education. This student demographic has the lowest national graduation rate and I researched different methods and programs that can help this population of student succeed within the American higher education system. I believe that a college campus can implement many different methods in order to help any student succeed and help them graduate and become active alumni.
