Background
About Jennifer Ware
Sankofa, an Akan concept, is broadly defined as a practice of acknowledging and learning from the past to inform and improve the future. Sankofa drives my personal and professional life. I trust in the wisdom of our past to build a better future. Using a historical lens that includes an analysis of how systemic racism is undergirded in American systems, institutions, and policies, I seek to develop strategies to advance racial and health equity. Through a Critical Race Theory praxis and community-based participatory methods my work seeks to drive policy change. I do this through authentic community engagement. By amplifying and uplifting the voices of communities experiencing systemic racism through the facilitation of community conversations and collaboration I partner in the development of innovative ideas to repair the harms of racism and other forms of oppression. I am looking for new opportunities to advocate for racial equity, self-determination, and the true liberation of people across the African diaspora. I bring experience in- completing racial equity assessments for health care and education organizations - Performing policy analyses on impact to the public's health- facilitating racial equity staff trainings- facilitating community focus groups/interviews- community organizing around issues of systemic racism- coalition building- cross-sector collaboration to advance racial equity- leading diverse groups to develop a shared agenda- raising awareness of social justice issues using social media, and - collaborating to develop innovative ideas to drive policy change
