Governmental relations professional with experience across Texas government, including appropriations, higher education, health policy, beyond- Vice Chancellor for Governmental Relations, Texas A&M University System- Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Texas A&M University System and Texas A&M Health Science Center Associate Vice President for Governmental Relations, driving education, service, and research, at the state and federal levels- More than 20 years experience working with the Texas Legislature and stakeholders to provide legislative strategy, grassroots development, political analysis, coalition building and strategic initiatives to improve the lives of Texans- As legislative director for the Texas Medical Association during the 78th (2003) session of the state legislature, helped negotiate and secure passage of House Bill 4 – Texas’ groundbreaking medical liability reform bill- As Public Affairs Director of the Texas Dental Association helped insure passage of all the organization’s legislative priorities during the 2005 regular session and four special sessions while preserving a strong practice environment for Texas dentistry- In 2007 helped secure landmark funding of $33 million to expand the Texas A&M College of Medicine, including establishment of a new clinical campus in Round Rock, Texas- Led A&M's efforts in 2009 to secure $45 million in funding for the College of Medicine expansion as well as funding for a Biosecurity and Import Safety Initiative in McAllen to serve South Texas- In the 2011 session worked to protect funding critical to support the Health Science Center at a time when the state faced a $27 million shortfall. A potential loss of $20 million in funding was cut to a $10 million reduction- The 2013 session resulted in an increase of $44 million to the HSC, thanks to formula funding provided to support the growing number of students being trained by our institution to meet the needs of Texas- Continuing to drive opportunity for Texans and economic development for the state through support for institutions higher education. Teaching, research and service are delivered every day through the 11 universities and 8 state agencies of the Texas A&M University System. We are responsible for the education of students, are providing nearly $1 billion in research, and are grateful for the public and private support we receive to make this possible.
