Ironically, it isn’t easy for me to write about myself, but I have written about many other things: 1. I write about movies. As a kid who cherished trips to the theatre and stores with bargain-bin DVDs, I’ll never get tired of saying that I get to share my ideas about film, history, and art with my readers. I write about people. One of my many joys is interviewing industry professionals — from actors and directors to entrepreneurs and even ex-politicians — about their work and sharing their stories. I write about the Canadian economy, bleak as it is for a Millennial artist like me. Early on in my writing career, I knew I wanted to learn how to write diversely, which meant stretching myself beyond the cinematic landscape I had grown up and studied in. That’s how I learned how money works in Canada. I write about fashion. Building on the previous point, my freelance work has also taken me to the beauty and fashion industries. I write about whatever interests me (or my editor) the most. Doing research is a major component of any assignment I take on, in whatever industry, which will never cease to fascinate me. Thanks to The Edge, for example, I can now tell you about vertical farming. Or, because of The Asian Cut, I have a deeper appreciation of Filipino filmmaking.
