About Jerod Richards-Walsh

I've done a variety of different jobs in search of work that I believe does good things in the world and that I also find fulfilling to do. Lately, through a combination of advice from Cal Newport's books and digging into Effective Altruism, I've come to realize that I can accomplish both these things with my quantitative skills, so I'm looking to move toward computer work once again. Most of what I did while engineering was FEA on superconducting coils for MRI machines. I was using Vector Fields software which is written in Fortran. Outside of that I've been a rock climbing instructor, picked up recycling by bike, managed a backcountry hut, farmed and canvassed. Outside of work I've taught lots of folks to slackline and climb, hiked and biked, helped redistribute food waste, participated in climate protests, and generally I've tried to refine my ideas about what activities I like best and what it looks like to be a good person. I'm excited to continue learning.
