I am a social scientist that studies the way that citizens, scientists, policy makers and society at large react on risks, environmental stressors and innovations. At RIVM I advocate a more inclusive approach that uses the results of the social scientific study of risks of the past few decades. Research subjects that enable the study of risks and innovations by both the social and the natural sciences, and therefore have my research interest are : risk and innovation governance, constructive technology assessments, citizen science, energy transition, risk perceptions, risk literacy, and risk perception based risk communication.
