About Jerome Buckley

I was a journalism student in college. I attended Marquette University from 1980 to 1982 and Washington State University from '82 through '84 I dropped out because I could never afford school and my heart wasn't really into it after leaving Marquette. I tried to work my way into the journalism world through the backdoor at the Los Angeles Times. I started out as a bicycle messenger before being promoted inside as an advertising clerk. I never made it into editorial and got laid off. I washed dishes in Alaska, was an escort for a wastewater management convention in Pasadena before finally hooking up as a file clerk for the Jacobs Engineering group. I spent two years there and then joined the Army because why not? We didn't go to war then and I was getting old so I found myself back in the civilian world where my military MOS qualified me for dishwashing and telecom. 23 years later I'm still here. I've managed one promotion in this time while seeing colleagues shoot to the stars. I'm a hard worker so I don't understand that at all. At this point in my life I am not aspiring to vp status or senior this, lead that, just trying to hang on. I've got a book in my head that I've been trying to write all my life it seems. If it ever gets finished, I will consider my life a success; if not, I was just another ant scurrying from one hole to the next, day after day, year after year.
