About Jerome Smith

With over 10 years of experience in facilities and health and safety management, I am a passionate and dedicated professional who strives to create safe, healthy, sustainable, and productive work environments. I currently lead the H&S function for Capitec Bank, a leading South African financial institution with over 16,500 employees and 840 branches across the country. In my role, I develop and execute H&S plans, policies, and strategies for the entire business, ensuring compliance with legislation and governance. I also manage people, budgets, suppliers, and stakeholders, and report monthly to executives. Additionally, I am responsible for Covid risk and workplace management, vendor and contract negotiation, and work-related injury statistics. I have successfully implemented SAP Environment, Health, and Safety Management (EHS) and ISO 45001 standards, resulting in improved performance, efficiency, and quality. I am also a certified member of the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (SAIOSH), and have completed various courses and certifications in quality management, auditing, incident investigation, and the COID act. My goal is to drive facilities and H&S excellence at Capitec Bank and beyond, by applying my skills, knowledge, and experience in these fields. I am always eager to learn new things, collaborate with others, and contribute to the growth and success of the organization. I am confident that I can bring value and innovation to any H&S role, and I look forward to new challenges and opportunities.
