Jeromy Farkas is a Calgarian mentor, athlete, and former politician. Jeromy is a certified Wilderness First Responder with extensive solo and unsupported backcountry experience. Over the past five years, he has successfully completed over 400 Rocky Mountain hikes, overnight trips, scrambles, and peak summits.Born-and-raised in a newcomer family in Dover, Jeromy’s early years included shifts at the Forest Lawn Dairy Queen and Ogden shingle mill as he worked to pay off student loans and earn a university degree in Political Science. Out of school, Jeromy started a successful small business focused on data analysis. In 2015, he and five other team members won first place in the City of Calgary “Hackathon,” a technology competition of the city’s up-and-coming entrepreneurs.Taking an interest in local politics, Jeromy developed the cutting-edge “Council Tracker” platform, breaking national news stories and shining a light on council’s time spent in secret meetings, spending record, and meeting attendance. In 2017, he was elected as the youngest Calgary City Councillor and the first openly LGBTQ person to ever hold the position. In October 2021, he finished second in a field of thirty candidates in the race for the mayor's chair. He followed through on his campaign promise to decline the "Golden Pension" at an estimated personal cost of Jeromy competes every year in the Calgary Ironman 70.3 triathlon and rides in the Elbow Valley Cycle Club’s Golden Triangle, a three-day 320-kilometer bicycle traverse of Banff, Kootenay, and Yoho National Parks.Jeromy has been blessed with quality mentors and role models throughout his life, including his late grandmother, Elizabeth Ptycia, a decades-long elementary school teacher in East Calgary. He continues to serve as a career mentor to students through programs at Mount Royal University, and his alma meter University of Calgary, for the past ten years.
