About Jerri Kaplan

With over 12 years of experience in Emergency Management, I am currently pursuing a doctorate in Public Administration from Valdosta State University. My educational background includes a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Webber International University. In my current role as an Emergency Management Planner, I contribute to strategic planning and coordination efforts while overseeing training and education initiatives. I actively engage in public education and outreach programs, ensuring the community is well informed and prepared for potential disasters. As the Co-Chair of Polk County's Local Mitigation Strategy Working Group, I identify and implement strategies to reduce the impact of hazards. As a WebEOC Administrator, I possess advanced skills in managing the Emergency Operations Center's digital information system, enhancing situational awareness, and facilitating decision-making. To contribute further, I am involved in various FEPA (Florida Emergency Preparedness Association) Working Groups, including WebEOC, HigherEd, and AlertFlorida. These collaborations keep me updated on industry developments and foster a network of professionals dedicated to enhancing emergency response and management. During EOC activations, I serve as the Planning Section Chief, leveraging my knowledge and expertise in coordinating emergency operations. Additionally, I am a member of the Region 4/6 Incident Management Team Planning Section Chief, managing complex incidents and ensuring effective coordination among response agencies. I have obtained certifications to teach courses such as L449 Train-the-Trainer, CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), G2300 Intermediate EOC Functions, and NIMS ICS (National Incident Management System Incident Command System) All-Hazards Planning Section Chief. These certifications reflect my dedication to equipping others with necessary emergency response skills. Overall, I am a driven professional with a passion for Emergency Management. Through education, experience, and leadership roles, I aim to make a meaningful impact on preparedness, response, and recovery efforts, ensuring the safety and resilience of our communities.
