About Jerrick Knippel

My name is Jerrick Knippel and I’m currently a dietetic intern at the University of Maryland, College Park. Through years of course work, leadership positions, and extracurriculars I developed a solid foundation of knowledge and skills for a dietetic intern. During this dietetic internship, I have strived on improving my communication skills to extend my reach as a practicing registered dietitian. Sports nutrition has my interest as I am fascinated by the interaction between exercise, performance, and nutrition. I enjoy counseling athletes to optimize their performance both on and off the field. Enhancing an athlete’s performance is satisfying, but the real fulfillment comes from educating and helping the athlete develop long-term healthy habits. During my time at UMD, I managed fueling stations and interacted with student athletes across the UMD campus. I aided the fueling of two summer football training camps. Eventually, I earned a paid position traveling with the football dietitian to assist on the road fueling in the 2020 season. I also earned the “Community Outreach Award” from the UMD Department of agriculture after orchestrating outreach events and nutrition presentations. After working alongside an eating disorder dietitian for a mentorship program, I organized a webinar series about eating disorder related topics. The knowledge and skills gained from these experiences have helped me to become a well rounded dietetic intern. After the dietetic internship, I aim to earn a sports nutrition fellowship position to gain more experience in working with athletes and managing a program. Then, I hope to earn a position as a sports dietitian to start the journey of becoming a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics with a masters in sports nutrition.
