Background
About Jerry McGee
From some of my earliest childhood memories I've always loved music. Whether it be my Mom singing along to an album playing on our Hi-Fi in our living room or me "playing" disc jockey and creating specialized soundtracks for my imaginary audience. So at the age of 15 it was no surprise that I would befriend a local nightclub DJ and begin my journey that has led me to where I am today. From that initial meeting with DJ Pauly Day at a local teen dance when I was 15 and him taking the time to introduce me to the techniques and skills required to be a dj I would never have made it to the level of success I garnered in the local music, nightclub business. At the time, my older brother, Ricky McGee, was a local "breakdancer" and in a group that performed on the boardwalk here in Atlantic City. Using that as a source for the music that was up and coming and popular I bought my first 12" records, Rainbow Records in Atlantic City, Afrika Bambata and the Soul Sonic Force - Planet Rock was the first 12" I've ever bought. This would be the start of a vinyl collection that overtook at minimun 12 long style milkcrates, they were not easy to carry from gig to gig I tell ya. My first job, thanks to my brother, was at a local lounge named Grabels, the dj, JT, was in need of a relief dj for his nights off. The gig only paid 75.00 a night, but at 16 and still in high school, that was a bonus, hell, I probably would have done it for free just for the experience. Grabels was a fun experience, you never knew what to expect. There usually was a band playing and you only had to play between sets, JT, the DJ, left his record collection for you to utilize and it was understood that this was the allowed music that could be played. Well, I didnt conform to that too much. I began bringing in some of my newest 12"'s and mixing them in with the "allowed" music. Some local "Gypsies" who were regulars at the area nightclub began to make requests of this music and would always tell me
