About Jerry Wickwire

As an avid tech devotee, I enjoying using computers for anything, live sound mixing, and videography. I’ve set up and diagnosed peer-to-peer networks several times. Each week, I prepare the presentation materials for our church’s worship service, record the service, and edit it, then post it to the church’s website which I built. I’ve recently begin learning the non-linear video editing program, Lightworks, to create weekly video announcements for the services. As for a ‘who’s who’ of software I enjoy working with, how about Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and Access), Audacity sound recording and editing software, The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), and Drupal website software. I am a strong proponent of open source code software from a community which supplies professional level software for free or low cost, and always has someone knowledgeable around to answer question or point someone in the right direction. I am also fervent about training. I’ve taught people from 8 years old to 80 years old how to use Microsoft Office, and am always available to help people learn something new. I also enjoy training people who are looking for work in skills such as resume writing, networking, interviewing skills, as well as upgrading their computer skills. My favorite way to get an in-depth understanding of a computer program or office process is to learn it with an eye to teaching it. That way, I get to learn it twice – once through my eyes and once through the eyes of students. One type of training that I have done for seven years and thoroughly enjoy is training volunteers for VITA. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is an awesome program to help lower income individuals and families with tax preparation at no cost. Recruiting, organizing, training, and supervising VITA volunteers are one of the joys of my year!
