About Jess Ilse

As a communications professional with 10 years of experience, I’ve truly done—and written—it all. I’m a writer with a knack for ensuring that the voice and tone of a particular project shines through. I've written everything from radio taglines and pithy social media copy to long-form historical articles and production scripts. I've written letters to regular joes, small business owners, royalty, and dignitaries. I edit and produce everything from eblasts and social media copy to playbills, media releases, speeches, donation appeals, scripts and more. I oversee website development and maintenance. I manage multiple social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIN and TikTok). I write ad copy for radio, print, television and digital partners. I arrange media calls and interviews across all mediums. I act as a media liaison between performers and journalists. I work with television stations like PBS and Eastlink to arrange broadcasts of past programming. My work is strengthened by my Bachelor of Journalism (Honours) degree from the University of King’s College. I also have a diploma in Multimedia Graphic Design and Development from Eastern College. I have been a successful freelance writer for many years. My debut novel, THE MAJESTIC SISTERS, will be released by Vagrant Press in 2024. I have spent my professional career in the non-profit sector, working in local arts, culture and tourism. Halifax is my home and I’m proud to spotlight it every day.
