About Jess McCamley

Strong messaging builds communities; communities drive change! Pleasure to e-meet you! I'm Jess, a young policy and communications specialist with uniquely diverse experience, passionate about utilising a nuanced and contextualised approach to data to drive policy decisions and galvanise communities through strong messaging. From social media management to news and academic publishing, I've been lucky enough to find myself in a range of roles. All of this experience has fed my love of language and the huge impact that well-placed and consistent messaging can have on consumer and community groups. I currently manage all communications activity (including four social media accounts), for the North East, Yorkshire and Humber regions of the Institution of Civil Engineers. I work with thousands of specialist members, utilising their experience by translating complex engineering knowledge for the general public and policy makers to enable better infrastructure policy that tackles climate change and social injustice. The innate power of data-driven language to create change astounds me every day! I take a people-first approach to policy and comms, highlighting how our decisions interact with intersecting identities and marginalised groups. In an ever-changing British media and political landscape, it's important to have those ready to adapt and learn at the forefront of strategy.
