About Jess Shi

As a fourth-year student at Tufts and an incoming D1 at HSDM, I remain committed to increasing dental access and engaging with underserved communities to help advance care and bridge health inequities. My academic and extracurricular commitments have uniquely prepared me to take on this challenge, where I've been fortunate enough to directly collaborate with and support young adults experiencing homelessness – I aspire to not only further illuminate how current oral health policies and practices have marginalized this community but to also pilot innovative programs to better connect them with health networks. Through combining my work with the Boston Covid Recovery Cohort, and utilizing my training as a Tufts Civic Biology Fellow, I aim to further engage in community field work and build deeper connections with underserved neighborhoods in Greater Boston. Through this, I strive to better illuminate the current gaps in oral healthcare infrastructure and develop more effective means for facilitating outreach and re-building patient trust. As a student provider, I firmly believe that any progress made in this endeavor requires strong working relationships. To that end, I am dedicated to furthering my advocacy in Greater Boston and am eager to collaborate with individuals who similarly subscribe to this model of community-oriented care for all.
