Background
About Jess Tveit
As a result of COVID, I relocated back to the US after living in Belfast where I worked with PeacePlayers- NI and studied to be an integrative counsellor. I am now working in Denver as a Case Worker through a jail based program to help people who struggle with opioid and alcohol use disorders transition into the community through medication assisted treatment. In December 2018 I graduated from Queen's University Belfast with a MSc in Psychology of Childhood Adversity. After graduating from Queens, I moved to Seattle for 6 months and worked as a Residential Youth Counselor through Friends of Youth. In between my BA and MSc degrees, I lived in Chennai, India as an Aftercare Intern with International Justice Mission as well as Washington, DC where I worked with Sojourners.Being an extremely passionate and self-motivated individual, I am constantly trying to seek opportunities to lead, develop and better the community around me. I have a heart for teaching others and working alongside youth and/ or underprivileged individuals. This requires paying attention to detail, taking the initiative and deepening my relationships with those around me. Moreover, I value my ability to commit and follow through, as well as being a quiet leader. I plan to continue building my professional and volunteer experience whilst working alongside my community to support the voices that are often unheard and/ or traumatized. Specifically I plan to obtain counselling credentials in hopes to bring psychosocial interventions to developing, and conflict affected, communities in order to better strengthen their social services.
