About Jesse Brooks

As a Nuclear Machinist Mate, I maintained plant parameters dealing with steam, auxiliary steam, hydraulic, air and refrigeration systems. After an injury occurred underway, I was transferred to the Executive Department of Naval Submarine Support Command Pearl Harbor, where I was tasked with the tracking of sailors and officers for Submarine Squadrons 1 and 7 for the purpose of transferring, augmented training, medical holds, etc.After being honorably discharged from the Navy, I worked as a BioGas Plant Technician for Air Liquide in Atlanta, GA, where we processed landfill gas into natural gas. Job details included maintaining plant operations and cleanliness, as well as, landfill well tuning to maintain gas quality within Federal and State Regulations.Despite having a heavy mechanical and engineering background, I decided to pursue a degree in psychology because, though I could do mechanical engineering, it was not my passion. Through personal issues and experiences, I found my calling was to help others to achieve or maintain a healthy mind. Mental Health has become a passion of mine and I want to explore this passion with the utmost diligence. In 2020, I completed my B.A. in Psychology while working part-time in the Veteran Student Success Center at The Citadel. Upon graduation, I moved to a full-time status as the Veteran Services Coordinator where I help process VA benefits for our military-connected students, advise students on their responsibilities using benefits, and provide on and off campus resources for students looking for them. I also work in conjunction with The Citadel Graduate College to provide orientations to incoming students. In the fall of 2020, I also decided to pursue my M.Ed. full-time as working here at The Citadel has expanded my horizon and grown my interest in working in a Higher Education setting.
