About Jesse Handler

Jesse is an urban planner trained in Chicago and London. Her passion for expanding the inclusivity of active travel and the public realm led her to pursue a master’s degree in City Planning at the University College London. Her master’s thesis explored the relationship between women’s participation in soft cycling supports and the practice and perception of cycling in London. With a background in GIS and affordable housing, Jesse previously worked at Chicago Housing Authority where she designed numerous interactive, data-visualisation tools to support internal and external decision-making and transparency. Utilising iterative and collaborative design approaches, she worked closely with a wide range of stakeholders on projects such as creating accessible databases and map-based application processes. Her expertise in leveraging data visualisations, public realm imagery, and user experience feedback has helped her to bring to life the realities of the built environment and ultimately improve their design and utilisation patterns.
