Background
About Jesse Mysiorek
Jesse holds an Master of Science in Engineering Geology-Remote Sensing-Rock Mechanics-GIS with focus on the characterization of complex slope failures in Nepal Himalayas utilizing an integrated field, GIS, terrain analysis, remote sensing-numerical modelling approach. His work has been widely recognized, with over a dozen publications and presentations in leading engineering forums, including the CGS where he received the Best Paper Award. Notably, Jesse developed 3D mixed-reality (MR) rockfall modelling software, featured in the 2019 CGS Magazine. He also contributed to multiple chapters of the Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual. As a Senior Engineering Geologist, Jesse applies his expertise in slope stability to a broad range of projects across the mining, pipeline, forestry, transportation, and railway sectors. He currently plays a key role at Woodfibre Eagle Mountain Pipeline (EGP) in Squamish BC as well was pivotal component over 4 years on the Coastal GasLink Pipeline Section 8 West near Kitimat, BC, one of North America’s most geotechnically challenging pipeline corridors. His extensive field and research experience spans the Nepal Himalayas, the Canadian Rockies, and Alaska, employing a diverse set of techniques including rock engineering, advanced remote sensing, terrain analysis, change detection, GIS, hazard and risk assessment, regional hazard assessments and MR/VR technologies. As a certified Advanced UAV Pilot, he integrates high-resolution data acquisition into web-based interactive GIS platforms. As project lead, Jesse provides expertise and team development to develop and implement Geohazard Risk Management Programs throughout Canada and USA to assess, monitor, and mitigate the risk of geohazard events in transportation, railway, mining, urban development and energy sector. Responsible for recurring geohazard slope/tunnel inspections and risk level assessment, rock mechanics, remote sensing, instrumentation, monitoring, GIS, reporting, and emergency callouts. Jesse leads systematic evaluation and management of slope hazards on a system-wide basis, including assessment of safety risks, development of mitigation programs, management of the slope stabilization program, maintenance of rock slope databases and maintains critical geotechnical databases, providing technical leadership and strategic direction for geohazard management. Interests include geohazards, avalanches, rock mechanics, backcountry activities, and application of new technologies for the investigation, assessments, monitoring and mitigation of complex slope failures.
