About Jessica Higgins

As a child growing up in the seemingly endless suburbs of Houston, I found what would become my future in my backyard’s patchwork of sun and shade. A small puddle of moss-covered mud at the base of a gutter became my canvas as I dragged my fingers through the soft caking clay and cool silt to design miniature landscapes and gardens. As I grew, so did the size of my designs; building arbors with fallen branches, sowing the soft, vibrant red seeds of a magnolia tree, planting flower beds and helping build a pergola and deck with my father. Since my youth, I have had a love of nature and design that only a lifelong career as a Landscape Architect could satisfy. Working with a natural palate of trees, soil, water and stone has, and always will be, my dream job. I flourish in working within the constraints and challenges of nature’s dynamic materials and strive to push the limits of what can be created. Relying on a mixture of inspiration from others and my own imagination to compose designs, I seek not only to speak to potential users, but also respond to surrounding structural, natural and social environments.
