About Jessina Clasen

Teaching Philosophy: Teaching students the importance of art is critical to a more learned and gratifying life. The visual arts have the ability to teach students new, creative ways of looking at the world, and allows for critical thinking and problem solving skills. Students who have a properly taught art class learn to accept and discover a variety of of different answers and solutions to questions and problems. Art is everywhere in our everyday lives, and I teach my students the importance of analyzing the the world around them with a critical eye. My classroom is place of inclusion and acceptance. No matter what economic, cultural, or educational background my students are from, they will always be a part of my classroom community. Inclusion allows for a better understanding of a student's own background as well as of those that are foreign to them. It is incredibly important to me that every child, regardless of who they are have the right to a full education. The visual arts are not for any one type of person. I believe that when art is taught and understood properly, it can bridge the divide of what makes us different and create a better understanding for everyone in this world. The visual arts allows for a global view of the world and can convey culture and individuality in nonconventional ways. With the right tools and learning environment I believe that my students will leave my classroom with more questions than they came in with, fueled by curiosity and open-mindedness.
