About Jigish Khamar

Hello! My name is Jigish, and I am a first-year general surgery resident at McMaster University. With a strong interest in minimally invasive and upper gastrointestinal surgery, I am committed to advancing patient care through innovative surgical techniques. My dedication to research has resulted in 18 peer-reviewed publications and recognition through prestigious grants such as the THE FIRST CUT Associate Chair for Research Honorary Award, SAGES Medical Student Summer Research Award, and the 2023 Medical Student Education Research Grant issued by the Ontario Medical Students Association. I have had the privilege of presenting my research at both national and international conferences, including SAGES and CSF, where I delivered podium presentations. Most recently, I was awarded the top podium presentation on behalf of the Canadian Hernia Society at Canadian Surgery Forum 2024. Beyond my surgical and academic pursuits, I am deeply passionate about increasing equitable surgical access for South Asian communities, particularly immigrant families. When I'm not in the operating room or conducting research, I enjoy playing badminton, rewatching Marvel movies (especially Iron Man), and skydiving. I am excited to continue contributing to the field of surgery, mentor aspiring doctors, and make a positive impact on patient care and surgical education.
