My name is Jill Collins and I am a recent graduate from the University of Minnesota having obtained my Master's in Public Health. I majored in Community Health Promotion and minored in Sexual Health. I always knew I would return to school after receiving my Bachelor's of Science in Psychology from Drake University in 2013, but I was not sure what kind of a program was going to best fit my interests and desires. Was it Social Work? Psychology? Family Therapy? In July of 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, I found my perfect fit in public health. In my program I gained skills in legislative advocacy, policy development, using public health policy as a prevention strategy, grant writing and budgeting, program development, program evaluation, using mass communication as a tool for public health education and policy, biostatistics literacy, conducting focus groups, sexual health education, and survey writing. The work I did throughout the program was through the lens of social justice, equity, sexual and reproductive health.
