About Jillian Miller

I was born and raised in a small town in the backwoods of New Hampshire. I graduated high school with roughly 30 kids from my town. I originally came to Rochester for the Sign Language Interpreting program at RIT/NTID, but I stayed because of my experiences in the Criminal Justice Program at RIT. I have loved every second of the program and have met some amazing professors and individuals. Through my time here, I have found a passion for criminal justice, crime analysis, and system reform. I have done research and written papers about police interactions with mentally ill individuals, voter disenfranchisement from felony convictions, female serial killers, mass incarceration, et cetera. I took one class where our final project was to apply what we learned and solve a crime. My group and I did very well on this project and I loved every aspect of it, the problem solving, analyzing details, and applying my knowledge of technology used by the criminal justice system. Currently, I work as a case manager in electronic monitoring for Recovery Monitoring Solutions, the company that is contracted out by Monroe County Probation. My role involves installing and removing various types of electronic monitoring bracelets on our clients (SCRAM, GPS, etc.), making sure all the equipment is operational, keeping inventory up to date, alerting probation officers when we get an alert for a client, and managing their case in our various systems. When I'm not working or doing homework, I'm usually spending time with my partner or my two cats. I love crocheting and baking, and have been getting back into reading as a hobby. I've been working out this summer and hope to continue making progress in that department.
