About Jim Hall

My time with General Motors has been extraordinary. Starting as a Controls Engineer at our Kalamazoo stamping plant, I worked with and learned from trades people and engineers charged with the installation and maintenance of presses and automation. After supervising the mechanical team there, I came to lead the Quality Department. This experience was a big change and a big chance to learn lessons that I carry with me today. Quality took me to the Detroit area where I implemented for our stamping division. After this, I returned to Manufacturing Engineering as a Project Manager and then returned to Operations as the Director of ME at Pontiac Stamping. Circumstances led to subsequent assignments in Quality, on the Pontiac Solstice, and then, again, back to controls.In 2011 I was given the opportunity to lead the newly formed Advanced Propulsion Center. In this group, we gathered the ME teams for fuel cells, battery modules & packs, and eMotors. This was an exciting opportunity to grow our team at the very beginning of the Volt program. This role has evolved over the years to my current position as the lead for our battery cell and fuel cell ME teams which are combined with Gaging and Controls to form a team of highly skilled engineers operating at entrepreneurial speeds to bring our new EV portfolio to life. This is an exciting time in the industry and in General Motors in particular. The level of engineering capability that we are building is exceptional; the speed that we are moving means that our engineers are understanding, deciding and acting in a way that really highlights the company that we have become.
