About Jim Messer

I started my career in 1987 at the Florida State Prison. During my time there, I had the opportunity to learn the basics of my chosen profession of Corrections. The skills I learned then have proven to be a great foundation even today. In the last 34 years, I have used the lessons I've learned to build on what has been taught to me and to grow professionally and personally. The men and women that I have had the opportunity to learn from have made a definite impression on my life and career. I stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before me.During my career, I started from the ground floor and worked my way up, holding a variety of positions and supervising a variety of disciplines, administrative and operational. These positions have given me a good grasp of how a correctional facility functions, in a practical manner, and how to lead a diverse workforce.
