Background
About Jim Meyer
I am an experienced writer specializing in science, explainers, travel, marketing, profiles and humor with a decade of editing experience. I've also become a skilled audio editor through writing, voicing, recording, and editing the state of Maryland's weekly travel spots,"The Maryland Minute." Previously, I have been a freelance journalist most notably with the Baltimore City Paper where I wrote the award winning "Spitballin" sports column in addition to contributing to features, Baltimore Magazine, Urbanite, AARP, The Guardian, and others. I worked in sports casting announcing both Aberdeen Ironbirds Baseball, and for the Charm City Roller Girls of the WFTDA, a capstone moment in my career. Through eight years of writing for the Maryland Office of Tourism, I was able to help develop the style and the voice of the brand, while celebrating the beauty, history, cultures, and people of Maryland. Honoring its unique ecosystems from rolling mountain peaks through the majestic Piedmont Plateau, along our rivers, into the mighty Chesapeake Bay, length and breadth, and on to Ocean City? My favorite place on Earth! It was an honor. Now, I write in the Marketing Department of the Maryland Department of Commerce. I'm part of an incredible content team, and I've gotten to write on some fascinating Maryland programs starting with the James Webb Space Telescope, cloud computing, and up next, the three phases of QUANTUM, Computing, Communications, and Sensing. It's startlingly cutting edge thinking, and just getting to talk with the people making it happen is a privilege. I only hope what I write is a match for the brilliance in this technology which, in its arcane and precise nature, would border on magic, if the math wasn't so sound. And it's happening here. In Maryland. It's amazing to be a small part of it! And finally, I remain a Stand-Up Comedian, having performed for nearly half of life before tens of thousands of people live, and millions on television, and I was honored to share a stage with legends and hold my own in the audience's heart. I am very proud of my comedy and consider it a sacred part of my family tradition going back as far as I know, and on through my own kids. We. Be. Funny.
