About Jim Morgan

Jim Morgan came to Gonzaga in the fall of after three exhilarating years in Chicago working with the then new Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Hailing originally from North Carolina, he’s relished teaching and counseling as his life's work. At Pfeiffer College (1986) he studied Comparative Literature and Music (voice and conducting), and then completed his M.Ed. in Education at UNC-Charlotte, working on how best to support gifted/talented students with disabilities through a Javits' grant program (US Dept. of Ed.). At UNC-Charlotte he worked as a teaching assistant, and as assistant to the editor of TEACHING: Exceptional Children (continuing as a field reviewer). Since then he has taught and been a counselor at the secondary and college level (UNC, LeMoyne, UNM), as well as serving as a school psychologist and educational consultant. Jim has presented at regional and national conferences including Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted, the Council for Exceptional Children, and Harvard’s Urban Education Institute. He is also certified by the National Institute for Trauma and Loss as a trauma counselor and consultant. At Gonzaga Mr. Morgan has served as Director of Counseling, moderated an array of clubs, and currently serves on both Admissions & Ignatian Formation committees. He enjoys participating in his Class’s service projects, summer immersions and retreats, and can often be found on the sidelines at games taking pictures. In addition to his love of photography, Mr. Morgan has sung with regional opera companies, ensembles & orchestras in the Americas and Europe; and shared his love of God while accompanying people on Ignatian retreats and directing the Spiritual Exercises.
