Clients call me when they have a problem they can’t solve or when they have a broken process. I got a call from a client that was having a customer issue with “lumps” in the product they were providing for several months. I attended a phone meeting and was amazed at the amount of finger pointing and lack of agreement on what direction to take to solve the problem. They invited me to come to their plant in China and within three days we had the problem solved. Using the 6M’s model and a process of elimination, I was able to determine the root cause of the problem was high moisture content in one of the product’s ingredients. Another client was having a large accounts receivable problem in their European operation that they weren’t able to reduce. Using the 6M’s model I was quickly able to determine the root cause to be inadequate work procedures for escalating and collecting customer receivables. In addition to solving problems and fixing broken processes, my wife and I enjoy travelling and visiting our granddaughters in Missouri and Indiana.
