Healthcare missions is unlike other mission work, with different burdens, ethical dilemmas, and cross-cultural stresses. I support healthcare missionaries and their sponsoring organizations through training, writing, researching, debriefing and spiritual direction. I previously served with MedSend in developing their Longevity Project, and at PCEA Chogoria Hospital in Chogoria, Kenya as a medical missionary with World Gospel Mission. We started a rural family medicine residency program for East African physicians, and were active in education of medical officers, clinical officers, nurses, and other medical professionals. We served a rural population on the shoulders of Mount Kenya. A special emphasis was placed on the discipleship of the trainees in preparation for their lives of service. Before becoming a medical missionary, I served 25 years in the United States Navy Medical Corps as a flight surgeon and emergency physician and medical educator.
