About Jim Walter

I’m a destination marketing and economic development leader with more than 20 years of experience transforming tourism strategy into community impact. As Vice President of Visit Cheyenne, the official DMO for Laramie County, Wyoming, I lead efforts to strengthen our region through strategic branding, event development, group sales, and stakeholder engagement. While I didn’t set out to work in tourism, I quickly found my calling. After beginning my career in media and communications, I spent a decade leading Madison County Tourism in New York—doubling its operating budget and building nationally recognized campaigns around agritourism, weddings, and craft beverages. In 2013, I brought that momentum west to Cheyenne, where I’ve risen through the ranks from managing the convention sales efforts to overseeing all operations, marketing, and events. Today, I help shape Cheyenne’s reputation as a premier gateway to the American West—managing everything from digital campaigns to producing seven rodeo events annually. I’m also proud to be a Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME), and to have served in leadership roles with organizations like PCMA, the Greater Cheyenne Greenway, and the New York State Travel Industry Association. When I’m not advocating for Cheyenne, you’ll find me hiking, gardening, cooking, or exploring breweries, distilleries, and tasting rooms as I grow my wine collection. My wife Stacie and I are proud to raise our daughter Loriana here in Wyoming, where we embrace and live the Western lifestyle every day.
