About Jim Walter

Having been born and raised just outside of Lusk, Wyoming, the ranch kid still lives on! My career began, after several years of study at the University of Wyoming and a stint with the U.S. Army. I went to work with the First National Bank of the Black Hills as a loan officer in Lead, SD and in 1969 transferred to the bank in Hot Springs, SD and took the position of the primary agricultural loan officer. My portfolio included farm and ranch operators in three states, plus a large feedlot operation. In 1976 I opted to go into business for myself, acquiring a real estate Brokers license and education required to become an auctioneer. Of which I then opened High Plains Realty and Walter Auctions. In 1990 my wife and I moved to the tourist community of Branson, Mo. where I worked as managing Broker for Long & Hagee Realty, but the Black Hills kept whispering in our ears and we chose to move to Rapid City, SD in 1973. I was involved in sales and automotive finance with several dealerships and later in the sales department with Liechty Homes, some what back into the real estate trade. Real estate and auctioning have always been my passion, and so with the encouragement of family I chose to open once again my own real estate office. We opened in Feb. of 2012 in the community of Box Elder, SD and named our firm Gold Key Realty & Auctions. Along with real estate sales we also offer the finest in modular homes, having associated ourselves with Family Built Homes of Gering, Neb. I am very blessed to have my wife Ida and step son Casey Varick assisting me, along with several talented and experienced Realtors. My life has also been blessed with our precious angels, the grandkids, and not to leave out all the furry strays we have taken in. I am most happy to be associated with Rotary International and presently sit on the Board of Story Book Island as its President. I have held various positions with local area chambers of commerce and most proud to be a life member of ELKS.
