Learning is a journey. From developing programs to developing people, I’ve always wanted to leave things in a better place for those who follow in our footsteps. At The Co-operators, we’re developing long-term relationships, building trust and ultimately getting results. Our mission is really a simple one: help clients meet their financial needs. And in volatile times, people need more help than ever. The desire to recruit and develop advisors took me from sales and field leadership to the head office. And I draw on that first-hand experience in my role as Chief Compliance Officer of our Mutual Fund Dealer. I’m also Vice President of Agency Distribution and Sales Support, with combined responsibilities covering life, health and investments, incentive programs and market conduct and compliance. It’s a wide range of oversight, but my distribution mindset guides me. I keep the sales process and the work advisors do front and center as I focus on ways to: • help advisors understand regulatory best practices—they are vital to strengthening client relationships • development of incentive programs to instill and motivate advisors—I’m proud that the support we provide at The Co-operators has led to confident, competent young advisors • develop my own team—my career flourished because people trusted me to learn new things, so I do the same for others while keeping us aligned with our strategic objectives It’s no surprise that even away from work I found an outlet to develop people. I trade in the office for the ice rink, where I referee elite minor league hockey. I’m big on bringing new blood into the organization. I’ve always loved the game, and refereeing keeps me active on the ice. Refs can face a lot of abuse, but what we do keeps the game exciting, well-paced—and safe.
