About Jing Shen
Jing Shen, born on October 21, 1981, in Linyi, China, is a Professor at Northeast Forestry University, where he serves as Chair of Graduate Studies in Light Chemical Engineering (Chemical Engineering for the Light Industry) and leads the Sustainable Papermaking and Advanced Materials research group. He completed his BSc and MSc degrees at Qilu University of Technology (formerly Shandong Institute of Light Industry) in 2002 and 2005, respectively. Dr. Shen began his career as an associate lecturer in 2005, advanced to lecturer in 2008, and completed his Ph.D. at Northeast Forestry University in 2010. He was subsequently promoted to associate professor in 2010 and to full professor in 2015. Dr. Shen has held multiple international positions as a postdoctoral fellow and visiting scholar at the University of New Brunswick, Canada, where he conducted research from August 2010 to November 2011, July 2013 to October 2013, August 2016 to November 2016, and January 2017 to March 2017. He resumed his affiliation as a visiting professor at the University of New Brunswick in November 2023. Additionally, he worked as a part-time postdoctoral fellow at Mudanjiang Hengfeng Paper Co. Ltd. from January 2013 to November 2015. Dr. Shen has received numerous prestigious awards and honors, including the New Century Excellent Talents Program for Universities (2012), finalist for the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation (2012), the Heilongjiang Science and Technology Innovation Award for Young Professionals (2013), the Fok Ying Tung Prize for Young Professors (2018), the Longjiang Scholars Program (2018), the Cai Lun Research Excellence Award for Young Professionals (2020), finalist for the National "Ten Thousand Talents Program" for Young Top Talents (2020 and 2021), finalist for the "Changjiang Scholars Program" for Young Professors (2023), and recipient of the Heilongjiang Outstanding Young Scholars Program (2023). Current research interests: 1. Papermaking Wet End Chemistry & Chemical Additives 2. Renewable and Sustainable Materials Based on and Inspired by Papermaking
