About Jiyeon Seo

I am a communication-based HCI researcher and a second-year Ph.D. student in information at the University of Michigan. Situated at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC), my work focuses on designing communication technologies that enhance social relationships and, even beyond that, overall quality of life. By employing a range of qualitative and design methodologies, I engage in reflection, design, and speculation on communication technologies that support individual well-being. I aim to deeply understand how traditional and emerging technologies such as mobile platforms, social robots, and AI shape interpersonal dynamics in communication contexts. My research engages with the past, examines the present, and speculates on the possible futures of communication technologies.
